HKKP 2011 – NEWS

HKKP intended to return to Haiti this January, to show films in public places, bringing communities together – however, due to the Cholera outbreak and increased risk of infection, we are postponing the visit.

Currently HKKP is carrying on with awareness and fundraising activities, and the team are planning to return October 2011 to show and make films.

If cholera is still likely to be present then, this gives us enough time to plan screenings for smaller groups who are already congregated – such as those in hospitals, schools, orphanages, thereby ensuring that our activities are not increasing infection risk to anyone.

Obviously we are frustrated that we can’t get out there now to provide support and escape for people now, but the HKKP team are committed to returning as soon as it can be done responsibly.

Between now and October, we hope to bring outdoor, community cinema to new locations in the UK for children. If you are interested in us visiting you, please get in touch.

Please return to this site to see what events, screenings and children’s activities we have coming up over 2011.

Mark Cousins THE FIRST MOVIE

Mark Cousins film screening tonight was so inspiring, if you didn’t manage to make it, the film is a must see! Playful, optimist and bursting with imagination. Hearing Mark talk with such a passion for cinema and the importance of feeding the imagination of children through storytelling was compelling. Check out THE FIRST MOVIE website for details on further film screenings in the UK. Mark is also involved in the 8 1/2 foundation a Scottish-based not-for-profit organisation dedicated to introducing world cinema to children on their 8 1/2 birthday. Well worth checking out!

MARK COUSINS introduces THE FIRST MOVIE

Thursday 7th October 8pm

MARK COUSINS introduces THE FIRST MOVIE, and is interviewed by Mark Cosgrove of the Watershed.

Breaking news – The First Movie won the Prix Italia in Turin this weekend.

In 2009 Mark Cousins took a mobile children’s cinema to Northern Iraq. In the village of Goptapa, he screened a selection of classic international children’s films to local children who were experiencing their first ever taste of cinema. The children were then given video cameras and asked to make their own films telling their own stories… Mark Cousins is possibly the most passionate and engaged British film critic of our generation. Tonight we’re very proud to welcome him to the Cube to introduce and answer questions about his inspiring documentary that touches on global and personal politics, film history, the art of memory capture and the universal ability for projected stories to move the human spirit.
